Calling for Green Hydrogen Economy
STRASBOURG, MAY 22 - With more than half of its 795 members
signing on, the European Parliament here has adopted a written
declaration calling for the establishment of a green hydrogen economy
and a third industrial revolution in Europe.
The declaration, signed by 420 MPs, calls for a partnership with
committed regions and cities, small and medium businesses and civil
society organizations.
The president of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering,
announced the vote Monday at the beginning of the session in
Strasbourg.
The declaration called on EU institutions to pursue a 20% increase in
energy efficiency by 2020, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by
2020 (compared to 1990 levels), institute hydrogen fuel cell storage
technology and other storage technologies fo portable, stationary and
transport uses, and establish a decentralized bottom-up hydrogen
infrastructure in all EU member states by 2025.
