Briefly Noted: FuelCell Energy/Versa Power Systems

In another corporate rearrangement, FuelCell Energy, Inc., Danbury, CT said it has sold its Canadian solid oxide fuel cell operations to Versa Power Systems, Golden, CO. In exchange, FuelCell Energy received stock in Versa, increasing its ownership position from 16 to 42%. Versa, founded in 2001, is a joint venture of the Gas Technology Institute (GTI), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the University of Utah, Materials and Systems Research, Inc. (MSRI), and FuelCell Energy, Inc. In other developments, FuelCell Energy said it and its Japanese partner Marubeni signed an agreement with Korea’s POSCO group, a leader in the global materials and steel industries, to distribute and package the American company’s fuel cell power plants in Korea and perhaps also throughout Asia; and that it would deploy one of its 250 kW fuel cell plants at a food recycling facility at the Tokyo “Super Eco Town” to run anaerobic digester gas.
