Opportunities: NASA/Glenn RFP, Rockport, IL Airport

  • NASA/Glenn Research Center (21000 Brookpark Road, Cleveland, OH 44135) plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) (Solicitation No. NNC05090069R) for development of a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Regenerative Fuel Cell (RFC) Breadboard. The Contractor will be expected to design, build, and test a closed-loop hydrogen-oxygen PEM RFC Breadboard, and to evaluate its operability and durability. NASA is interested in RFCs as an energy storage device for remotely piloted, solar-electric aircraft, which NASA anticipates will enable high-altitude, long endurance flight capability. NASA anticipates awarding two or more contracts as a result of this synopsis and its subsequent RFP. The scope of work will include conceptual design of a flight prototype, critical technology development, and breadboard demonstration. The anticipated release date of the RFP is on or about December 13, 2004 with an anticipated offer due date of on or about January 14, 2004. The solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet at http://prod.nais.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/eps/bizops.cgi?gr=D&pin=22. All contractual technical questions must be submitted in writing (e-mail or fax). Telephone questions will not be accepted. Contact: Linda M. Kendrick, Contracting Officer, 216/ 433-2407, Fax:216/ 433-5185; e-mail Linda.M.Kendrick@grc.nasa.gov.
  • Notice is a little short, - maybe too short - but the Greater Rockford Airport Authority, Rockford, IL said in a Nov. 9 Business Wire announcement it intends to select a qualified firm or team to provide planning, design/build and provide operational management for the Northwest Chicagoland Airport Renewable Hydrogen Project at that airport. The goal is to demonstrate the viability of renewably produced hydrogen in an airport environment from small to medium-scale wind and solar sources to produce hydrogen via electrolysis to fuel airport vehicles and to provide stationary heat and power for the airport fire station. Details are at the Illinois Coalition website, www.ilcoalition.org. Deadline for a one-paragraph description of capabilities and experience via e-mail was Nov. 15 already; full applications are due Dec. 3. Send information to Christopher Tynan, The Illinois Coalition, 312/229-1970, ext. 107; e-mail Tynan@tskenergy.com.
