Changes in the U.S. Energy Department’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office (EERE): JoAnn Milliken, until now leader of the hydrogen storage team, has been named chief engineer for the entire DoE Hydrogen Program, effective July 26. Sunita Satyapal, a member of the storage team for the past year and a physical chemist with both university and industry experience, is the new team leader and DoE’s representative on the FreedomCAR and Fuel Partnership’s Hydrogen Storage Technical Team. Carole Read and Antonio Bouza will continue as the Storage Team’s technology development managers. John Petrovic, on assignment from Los Alamos National Laboratory, will continue to provide technical support to the team. In another change, Neil Rossmeissl, who has served recently as technology manager in charge of Codes and Standards work, has been reassigned to run EERE’s Biomass operations. Pat Davis, who oversees DoE’s fuel cell activities, will assume responsibility for Codes and Standards as well.

And additions at fuel cell and hydrogen storage products developer Palcan, Vancouver, B.C.: The company says Dr. William G. Saywell, president emeritus of Simon Fraser University, has agreed to join its board of directors. Dr. Saywell, who holds a Ph.D. in East Asian Studies and who was the first sinologist to serve at the Canadian embassy in Beijing, is vice chairman of Intercedent Ltd., a business development consulting firm with offices in Beijing and Singapore. Also coming to Palcan’s board is David Demers, founder, president and CEO of Westport Innovations, Inc. His formal appointment is expected to take place this month. Westport is a developer of gaseous fuels technologies in Vancouver. And earlier, Palcan announced that Paul Lancaster had been appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of the company. Lancaster’s career spans two decades, including 12 years spent at Ballard Power Systems which he left in December, 2002.
