Briefly Noted: New S. Carolina H2 R&D Center

Ground was broken early last month for a new $9.2 million, 52,000 sq. ft. Center for Hydrogen Research in Aiken County, S.C. The new center is located on the grounds of the Savannah River Research Campus, previously known as the Westinghouse Savannah River research facility, now the Savannah River National Laboratory which has fifty years of experience with hydrogen and hydride technology as a weapons laboratory. The new center includes a 250-person conference center and display area for educational institutions, and it is scheduled to open next year. About 50 researchers and technicians from the Savannah River National Laboratory will form the core of the initial staff, and another 40 researchers are expected to be added in the next two years.
