Briefly Noted: Chancellor Schroeder

"Schröder’s Lean Green Machine," headlined Germany’s Deutsche Welle Internet service its story about the latest addition to German chancellor Gerhard Schröder’s car pool in mid-August in Berlin: a DaimlerChrysler fuel cell powered F-Cell car. Deutsche Welle, German equivalent to the Voice of America, said Schröder gets to drive the car for one year as part of the carmaker’s program to put 60 copies of the prototype vehicle into the hands of average customers to gain real-world experience and data. “I just came back from a press conference at which the effect of oil prices played a major role,” Schröder said when he was given the keys by DaimlerChrysler board member J rgen Hubbert, according to a Bloomberg account. “This car shows we’re on the right track.” Sources: Deutsche Welle, www.dw-world.de/english; http://quote.bloomberg.com.
