Briefly Noted: Smart Fuel Cell/FuelCellStore.com

Boulder’s FuelCellStore.com is already selling the brand-new SFC A50 fuel cell battery charger just unveiled by its manufacturer, Munich-based Smart Fuel Cell at the Caravan Salon, a camping equipment show in Duesseldorf Aug. 27-Sept. 5. The direct methanol fuel cell weighs about 7 kg and the manufacturer describes it as “an attractive power provider for recreational vehicles and mobile homes.” The unit delivers up to 100 Ah/day (1200 Wh/day. Power is 50 W (continuous), voltage is 10.5--14.5 V DC. Fuel consumption is 1.3 liter methanol/kWh at continuous operation. Smart Fuel Cell says a five-liter methanol fuel cartridge can charge batteries 5-10 days, depending on usage. FuelCellStore.com offers the device at $4,343.
