Briefly Noted: Renault Fuel Cell Prototype

With an assist from its alliance partner Nissan, France’s Renault has at long last developed a fuel cell prototype. Based on its Grand Scenic minivan, the new Scenic ZEV H2 is a hybrid powered by a Nissan-developed fuel cell stack, high-pressure hydrogen tanks and compact lithium-ion batteries, but Renault didn’t release any details as to power, range, amount of hydrogen stored on board, etc. It’s apparently the same basic stack that has powered Nissan’s X-Trail that’s been undergoing road testing in Japan for two years now (H&FCL April 05). The major elements are installed underneath the floor, maintaining room for five adults. Renault plans to showcase the car at its environmental workshop in Barcelona the second half of June.
