Opportunities
The U.S. Energy Department has issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for up to $130 million over three years, subject to Congressional appropriations, to advance the development and use of fuel cells for automotive, stationary, and portable power applications. In addition to proposals for R&D projects in these sectors, DOE is also seeking suggestions to demonstrate fuel cells in distributed energy systems and to support market transformations that provide real-world operation data. The Department expects to make up to 50 awards through this competitive funding opportunity, which is open to industry, universities, and national laboratories. With a minimum of 20 % private sector cost share for R&D projects and a minimum 50% applicant cost share for the demonstration projects, the total investment under this funding opportunity may exceed $170 million. DoE is also looking for an administrator of the H Prize: DoE has released a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) in support of the H Prize (Section 654 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007). The agency will competitively award cash prizes to advance research, development, demonstration and commercial application of hydrogen energy technologies. The agency is now seeking to identify an organization that will serve as an Administration Entity to implement the H Prize (H&FCL Sept. 06). Total estimated available funding is $1.3 million, including $1 million for the first prize), pending Congressional appropriations. Applications must be accessed, completed and submitted through DoEs Industry Interactive Procurement System (IIPS) and Grants.gov. to be considered. Applications are due June 25, 2008. The New York State Energy Research and Development Auhority (NYSERDA) seeks proposals in two rounds to support development, demonstration and commercialization of innovative transportation products, systems and services. A total of $2.5 million will be available under Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 1223. A maximum of up to $500,000 may be available for a working prototype produced within 36 months, and up to $150,000 and $50,000 are available for bench tests and feasibility studies, respectively.
