Briefly Noted: Wal-Mart FC Truck Trials

Two Ohio-based Wal-Mart distribution centers have successfully completed beta trials of twelve fuel cell-powered pallet trucks powered by Cellex Power Products, Inc.’s C’S-P150 PEM fuel cell systems (H&FCL, Aug., Sept. 05). The 12 vehicles logged more than 18,500 hours, including more than 2,100 indoor fueling breaks. Cellex, based in Vancouver and Dayton, OH, said the trucks showed better productivity via longer run-times, shorter fueling times - less than two minutes - more operator satisfaction, and quick training: operators were trained in half an hour. The fuel cell systems, powered by Ballad Mark 9 SSL (TM) stacks, were installed in Crown Equipment Corp. and Nissan Barrett pallet trucks, and hydrogen was provided by BOC, now part of the Linde Group.
