More fuel cells for cops: New York plans to install 5 kW Plug Power GenCore backup power fuel cells at 22 public safety communications sites in a new $434,000 Fuel Cells for Emergency Communications (FC4EC) program jointly managed by the New York Power Authority and the New York state police, but other state agencies will be equipped as well. One of the sites is a state Department of Transportation (DOT) communications tower in Albion, Orleans County, in western New York that was knocked out during the October snow emergency, an Authority release said. The others: a New York State Police site in Rensselaer County; seven New York State Department of Environmental Conservation sites in Chenango, Madison, Steuben, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Washington and Cortland Counties; a Village of Stamford site, Delaware County; a State Police and DOT facility, Clinton County; four New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets sites on the State Fair Grounds, Onondaga County; a Town of Schodack site, Rensselaer County; four Saratoga County facilities; and two New York State Office for Technology facilities, Albany County.
