Briefly Noted: Fuel Cell Fire Dep't Car

Fighting Fire with Hydrogen: DaimlerChrysler has made available another of its diminutive Mercedes-Benz F-Cell cars to local emergency officials. After lending an F-Cell to the campus police of Wayne State University in Detroit (H&FCL May 06) as squad car, the company recently handed another one to the Metropolitan Fire District in Sacramento, CA, home to the California Fuel Cell Partnership. The bright red F-Cell will be used as a vehicle for the department’s supervisor, and it’s expected to provide lots of data because of what is likely to be a demanding duty schedule. The vehicle will be refueled at a BP hydrogen fueling station at the Partnership’s headquarters. DaimlerChrysler has now operating more than 100 fuel cell vehicles around the world that have logged almost 2 million miles so far: research vehicles, 32 vehicles driven by customers, medium-duty Sprinter vans and more than 35 Citaro buses.
