Briefly Noted: Hythane for India

Hythane for India: An Australian company which now holds the rights to the patented Hythane® fuel mixture of natural gas and hydrogen, has won a 10-year conversion and marketing agreement with a major Indian bus manufacturer. The company, Eden Energy Ltd., Perth, says under the terms of the agreement with Ashok Leyland based in Chennai, Eden’s Irish Brehon Energy subsidiary will conduct the test, development and recalibration program at its Colorado-based subsidiary, the Hythane Company LLC, Littleton, CO, Eden’s executive chairman Greg Solomon said. Littleton is also home base for Hythane’s original developer and now consultant to Brehon, Frank Lynch and his own company, Hydrogen Components. Lynch first developed and patented Hythane, a fuel that burns much more cleanly than natural gas, in the 1990s, with first trials in Quebec (The Hydrogen Letter April 92, H&FCL Jan. 95). Hythane is also being evaluated in China (H&FCL Jan., Aug. 06). The first Ashok Leyland engines have been shipped to Colorado for modification for upcoming demonstrations this year in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kanpur, Eden said in its mid-December release. The Indian government is supporting various hydrogen fuel programs, including Hythane, the company said. Eden/Brehon is now considering a joint venture in India with a major Indian partner to launch wide use of Hythane there.
