Briefly Noted: Rent-A-Fuel Cell Limo

And now, it’s Rent-a-Hydrogen-Fuel Cell Limo: Starting this month, a Japanese limo rental service, Kanagawa Toshi Kotsu Ltd., will begin offering a hydrogen fuel cell-powered, chauffeur-driven Nissan X-Trail FCV for rent, apparently the first such service anywhere in the world. Drivers were undergoing training last month how to refuel the vehicles. Nissan is currently testing both 5,000 and 10,000 psi tanks, giving ranges of, respectively, 230 and 311 miles plus. Rental rates are the same as for a comparable gasoline vehicles, 37,000 yen ($307.82) for eight hours. Kanagawa prefecture is south of Tokyo, with Yokohama as capital, site of Nissan’s registered head office (Headquarters are actually in Tokyo).
