Briefly Noted: MicroFuel Cells 1st Production Shipment

MTI MicroFuel Cells, Inc., Albany, NY reports its first production shipment of an integrated micro fuel cell product: The company said last month its first Mobion™ fuel cell has been integrated into something called a portable radio frequency identification reader produced by Intermec Technologies Corp., Everett, WA. Its principal benefits are instant cord-free recharging using a replaceable fuel cartridge, and extended run times between charges three to five times longer than those achieved by existing Li-Ion batteries, MicroFuel Cells said in its release. It added MTI Micro has become the world’s first company to obtain micro fuel cell safety certification from Unterwriter’s Laboratory (UL) and CSA International. The company has also received United Nations packaging certification and was “deemed compliant by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for worldwide cargo shipment of its methanol fuel cartridges,” MTI Micro said in its release.
