Briefly Noted: General Hydrogen

Another order for General Hydrogen: The Richmond, BC-based company has received a Hydricity Pack® order from Bridgestone/Firestone Tire Co.’s plant in Warren Country, TN. Delivery is scheduled for next month, January 2006. The company is coy about releasing numbers, but presumably it’s one unit to let the tiremaker try out the pack which is intended to replace conventional lead acid batteries in forklift trucks. Earlier this fall, General Hydrogen ordered 100-plus fuel cell stacks from Ballard Power Systems for installation in packs for unknown customers (H&FCL Oct. 05). General Hydrogen won’t comment, but General Hydrogen is believed to be casting around for bigger fish and new market horizons: reportedly, the company is looking both at airport tugs as well as the automated guided vehicles market in the metal working and smelting industries that require power to transport loads of up to 200,000 lbs.
