Briefly Noted: Nuvera/Uhdenora Pact

Nuvera Fuel Cells, Inc., Cambridge, MA and Milan, Italy, is joining forces with Uhdenora SpA, a developer of electrochemical plants for making chlorine and caustic soda in an excess hydrogen-based power system. The two companies will develop a modular fuel cell system to use excess hydrogen produced during the production of these chemicals to generate power. Under the terms of the three-phase agreement, the two companies want to develop a base-load system capable of reducing a plant’s power consumption by 20%. Initial tests are scheduled to start in May. Milan-based Uhdenora is a joint venture of Uhde, Germany, and Italy’s Gruppo De Nora. Contact: Nuvera, Robert Derby, phone 617/245-7571, e-mail derby.r@nuvera.com
