Briefly Noted: Hydrogenics/GM Forklift

General Motors of Canada and Hydrogenics Corp. last month demonstrated a hydrogen fuel cell-powered forklift that the companies say is moving towards commercialization. Hydrogenics leads a consortium that is developing the forklift. The demonstration of the forklift and of a Hydrogenics-built HyLYZER refueling station took place in early February at GM’s car plant in Oshawa, Ontario, the first such demonstration at a GM facility, according to the release. The consortium includes Deere & Company, FedEx Canada, General Motors of Canada, NACCO Materials Handling Group and the Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance. The effort is financially supported by $1.45 million contribution from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), a foundation created by the Canadian government. Earlier, Hydrogenics announced it has sold a HyPM 10 power module and associated test stand to the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) to help in establishing standards for Fuel Cell Power Testing, a program sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The equipment was to be delivered during the first quarter of 2005. Contact: For Hydrogenics, Erik Van Drunen, Ketchum, 416/544-904, e-mail erik.vandrunen@ketchum.com.
