Fast Forward: 10 MW FC Plant for Long Island?

If it all works out the, so far, biggest stationary fuel cell power generation plant yet may come to Long Island, NY in a couple of years: The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is soliciting proposals for a 10 MW project that the utility wants to build on a so far unspecified site, with power production due to start July 1, 2006. In an early-February announcement on its website, LIPA said it plans to hold a proposers conference March 1 - already past by the time you read this - at its headquarters in Uniondale, NY. The full proposal - six bound copies, plus a CD-ROM in searchable text format - has to arrive in Uniondale by 3 p.m., April 25 at the office of Jim Peterson, the utility’s director of power markets contracts; interested proposers are asked to send a Notice of Intent by 5 p.m, April 11. In the meantime, Michael Standridge, director of corporate contracts and procurement, has been designated as LIPA’s sole point of contact for this project, phone number 516/719-8620, e-mail mstandridge@lipower.org.
