Storage: Linde Develops Ionic Compressor for More Efficient Compressed Hydrogen Storage
VIENNA – Large-volume storage of compressed hydrogen gas is likely to become simpler, cheaper, more efficient and less maintenance-intensive with the development of a so-called ionic compressor at an r&d center operated here by Linde Gas, the industrial gas company.

Maine Gov. Baldacci Inaugurates Chewonki Foundation’s New Hydrogen System
WISCASSET, ME – Hydrogen and fuel cell energy came to Maine at the end of last month with the dedication and unveiling of a solar electrolytic system capable of providing four days worth of backup electric power for an 11,000 sq. foot building.

U-Minnesota Launches Wind-to-Hydrogen-to-Fertilizer Project
MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The University of Minnesota expects to start work soon on a fertilizer-producing system that would convert wind energy via hydrogen into ammonia. The traditional way of making ammonia - NH3 - is to use hydrogen, produced from increasingly expensive natural gas, and react it with nitrogen extracted from the air. Now, the university’s West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) near Morris, will scale up a system in which wind, plentiful in the Great Plains, will drive wind turbines that will generate electricity which in turn will be used to electrolyze water to make the hydrogen.

Capitol Hill Roundup: The H Prize; a Hydrogen Commission; Earmarks; Planning for FY 2008
WASHINGTON, DC – As Congress returns after Labor Day before heading out again in mid-October to the hustings and electioneering, there are a few unfinished hydrogen and fuel cell items on the Congressional calendar.
