Briefly Noted: UK Decarbonized Power Plant
British Petroleum (BP) has started engineering and design work for DF-1, the first industrial-scale plant to generate electricity using hydrogen extracted from natural gas to produce "decarbonized fuel," reducing carbon dioxide emissions by some 90%.

Briefly Noted: EC Testing Center
The European Commission last month opened a new hydrogen storage and fuel cell testing facility in Petten, the Netherlands. European Commission Energy Commissioner, Latvia's Andris Piebalgs, announced in Brussels a new four-year program promoting sustainable energy technologies.

Briefly Noted: Wal-Mart Fuel Cell Pallet Trucks
Vancouver, BC-based developer of fuel cell products for industrial vehicles, Cellex Power Products, Inc., reports Wal-Mart has completed a first round of alpha trials of four pallet trucks powered by 2.5 kW PEM stacks, developed jointly with DuPont, at a distribution center in Harrisonville, MO.

Latham, NY-based Plug Power Inc. last month reported the sale of 116 GenCore backup fuel cell systems to Tyco Electronics Power Systems.

General Motors-sponsored survey of American attitudes toward U.S. energy policy and and emerging automotive technologies has found, Americans believe energy security should be the top priority of the country's energy policy. The survey also found wide support for a large "moon shot"-type effort to to develop a hydrogen economy.

With almost no fanfare, DTE Energy opened its new multi-use Hydrogen Energy Technology Park to the public in mid-July with an Open House.

AeroVironment, the Monrovia, CA-based developer of high-altitude long-endurance airplanes, has flown the world's first liquid hydrogen, fuel cell-powered unmanned aerial vehicle.

Two makers of fuel cell complementary fuel cell components, Germany's PEMEAS and the fuel cell division of Italy's Gruppo De Nora, plan to merge.

Hamilton, Bermuda-based Foster-Wheeler Ltd. reports its British subsidiary has been awarded a contract to prepare a basic design package for a hydrogen production facility in Russia.
